This photo was taken at a company picnic, in a park outside Tokyo. It was on a week day,
about noon. Photo was dated, March, 1955. Most of the men have been drinking saki from half
gallon bottles and now, men and women are dancing the "Coal Miners Dance" around a wind-up
record player. They are being led by a Geisha who had probably been hired as an entertainer for
the outing. Notice the children. All boys up through high school wore a black uniform.
The girls always wore a light color like pink or yellow.
Most women still wore the kimono.
