LeGeault, Slick and John: Slick, a monkey, was also a member of the battery. He belonged to the motor sergeant. This was the only monkey I saw in Korea. I'm sure he came in with the troops early on and rotated into our outfit. He even had his own shot record as did George, our dog. I never got along too well with Slick. He would jump up on my shoulder then grap a pencil from my pocket. If I took it away he would try to bite me. I would throw him down. He would say bad words, come back and try to bite me in the leg. If I kicked him away he would come right back to bite again, always saying those bad monkey words. One day when our tent was empty he got in through the smoke flap at the top of the tent and got into our tooth paste and shaving cream. He bit off the caps and emptied them on our bunks. He would sneak up on George (the dog) when he was sleeping, jump on his back and bite him on the ear. George would jump up and run, to try to shake him off. He looked like a small race horse with a jockey. |
