The battalion area, as seen from a low hill behind our gun emplacements. Looking south, on the far right, under the tree are the tents of able battery. In the center of the photo, just above the green foliage is a quonset hut which is across the river. That's our headquarters area. Their tents are behind that hut. Behind headquarters and to the left, almost against the hill, just barely seen is charlie battery. Baker battery is about 6 miles to our east. It supports a different division. Our service battery is about 6 miles further south, over the kansas pass. The river runs south,south-west past headquarters then loops west. The only way out of our area south is over the pass. See view to the north from the same location. . .

Our battalion was considered heavy artillery and therefore was not part of any division. We were under 10th corps and assigned to different divisions as backup. The battalion did originate as part of the Utah national guard. After leaving Korea it went back to Utah. We wore the 10th corps patch. Later we wore the 8th army patch. We did have an anti-aircraft unit from the 45th in our area. They had quad-50s. I believe they were to be used also for a ground attack. (photo july '54)
