This is a photo of two of our gun emplacements. The other two are just to left and right of these two. All four face north. They are placed behind the hill and cannot be seen by the korean artillery observers.

To the left down the hill is the Suip-ch'on river running north and south. If you were to stand down on the river bank you could see the enemy's OP and of course they could see you. When I was living in the valley, I thought the river was named Mundung-ne. But I find out now (from maps) that this area was called mundung-ne valley because the town, of that name was just north of us across the DMZ.

We had our latrine built on that river bank (an eight seater). When I first arrived in the area I noticed the latrine was put together, or held together with broken boards. I was told the reason for this was that the enemy artillery used the building as a base point. When they hit the building then they would walk their fire up the hill into our gun emplacements. The reason our unit kept rebuilding the building was that they used the hitting of the building as a warning to get under cover.
