John and Royal Hall -- When I first arrived in Korea, Jan 11, 1954, Royal was our chief of section for FDC (fire direction control). There were eight in the section including myself. Must have been, because there was only room for eight cots in the tent This photo was taken in front of our old bunker. The sign above reminds me when we moved to a new operations bunker which had been the sleeping quarters for the section during the fighting. I was given the job to repaint the sign. The original letters were faded. I had paint, but no small brush. I used a lock of hair from George, our dog and taped it to a large nail. It was one of the best lettering brushes I had ever used. Later that spring I planted asters (seeds from home) near the door of the bunker which can be seen on another photo. |
