The 155 mm "long tom". This gun could fire up 14 miles. A gun, unlike a howitzer, is low trajectory and high velocity. This photo was taken at our forward position, about 1000 yards from the line. Note, the wheels are jacked off the ground and the trails are spread apart. There is a spade at the end of each trail which is dug in about 3 feet. (photo dated may, 1954) |
