A visit to the St. Paul Winter Carnival in Rice Park, downtown St. Paul.  We admired ice sculptures, watch ice carving demonstrations, and hung around to watch the parade--all in 8 deg F (-13 deg C).

The Vulcan Krewe
What luck!  The Vulcans arrived, as we were admiring the ice sculptures.

There has been a Fire King & Krewe as part of the Carnival since 1886.

Starting in 1940, the Vulcans began marking people with black soot.

The "V" represents someone who has pledged loyalty to the Vulcans, rather than King Boreas, "King of the Winds".
