After generating the Use Cases (scenarios for using the deck), my next goal is to generate a collection of high-level ideas for various aspects of the deck.  I include pictures and thoughts in each area for things that I've seen elsewhere--either on other decks I've seen, or from booksthat I might want to incorporate into the design of our deck.  So the list of high-level ideas then serves as a collection of examples that I'll draw upon when finalizing decisions about the design of our deck.

These ideas are focused on high-level aspects, like deck platforms, elevations, main areas, etc.  I'm not yet focusing on details like railings, trim, and other visual aspects.

Below is a list of topics for which I've generated/collected some high-level ideas.  Click on one of the topics to see the ideas that I've collected for that topic.

High-Level Ideas - Topics
Platforms Breaking deck down into separate areas, or platforms
Dining Area Use of deck space for dining, cooking out, etc.
Paths Paths or passageways between areas
Storage Storage spaces attached to deck
Miscellaneous Things that don't fit into other categories
Walls Retaining walls, wall along deck, or freestanding walls
Stairs Stairs between deck levels and from deck to landscape
Patios Patios as areas adjacent to deck
