William Harmon (ed).
Collection of 100 best-loved poems in English.
|Recommendation:||Great starting point||Cover:||Paperback|
This is a very nice edition of "classic" poems in English, starting with early epic Scottish poems and running through Dylan Thomas and other modern poets. The collection was created by surveying more than 1,000 other anthologies, so it represents the "most commonly anthologized" poems--not necessarily the ones with the most literary merit. Still, aside from the inclusion of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, all the poems included in the collection are great classics.
There is also a books-on-tape edition, wonderfully read and interpreted by various modern poets.
