The Myth of Romantic Love

- Falling in love has the illusion that the experience will last forever
- Myth of romantic love:
    - Only one man meant for a woman and only one woman for a man
    - This has been pre-determined "in the stars"
    - When we meet the person for whom we are intended, recognition occurs because we fall in love
- The myth of romantic love is a dreadful lie
- People waste vast amounts of energy desperately and futilely attempting to make the reality of their lives conform to the unreality of the myth.
    - Some married couples still cling to the myth
    - Always need to be together
    - Speak for each other
    - Need to learn to accept their own individuality

Many people believe the myth that there is exactly one person that they are intended for, and that they will recognize this person because they will fall immediately in love with them.
